Brigham & Women's Hospital - Research Assistant for Orthopaedic & Spine Procedure Qualit
The Research Assistant, for Orthopaedic and Spine Procedure Quality and Efficiency Initiative will provide administrative and technical support for projects related to orthopaedic procedure efficiency and report to Andrew K. Simpson, MD and the BCRISP team. The Research Assistant will be expected to work with Dr. Simpson and the OR Quality and Efficiency Committee to observe and record metrics around the performance of surgical procedures and instrument and implant utilization, become an expert user of healthcare software, perform data analysis, and aid in the implementation of strategic interventions to optimize procedural care delivery.
This individual will work with physicians, nurses, surgical technicians, operating room personnel, practice staff (including, but not limited to administrative assistants, MAs, LPNs, etc.), patients, and Drs. Simpson and Iorio to support the goals of the OR Quality and Efficiency Initiative. They will serve on the project committee with physicians and numerous other OR personnel.
In addition, the RA, will be expected to pull reports and present metrics data, perform statistical analyses, and prepare manuscripts for submission to academic journals, as well as support other tasks related to orthopaedic procedure quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited:
Conduct observations and record metrics in the operating room and procedure areas
Responsible for working with physicians, nurses, and OR personnel
Develop and maintain all project documentation, in collaboration with Dr. Simpson and the Quality and Efficiency Committee
Conduct data and statistical analysis of metrics related to the project, with weekly meeting reports
Act as a first point of contact for OR staff with regard to the project
Track and communicate regular updates to Drs. Simpson and Iorio about the progress of data collection, analysis, and interventions
Serve as member of the OR Quality and Efficiency Committee and lead monthly multispecialty meetings
Prepare reports with project updates to BCRISP members as needed
Prepare and write investigative manuscripts for academic publication
Other duties, as assigned by Drs. Simpson and Iorio
Proven track record of involvement with conducting clinical research projects
Experience with Microsoft Office products
Experience with data and statistical analysis
Previous work experience, especially in a healthcare setting, preferred
Bachelor's degree, required.
Motivated and independent individual to work directly with physicians, practice staff, and senior administrative staff
Advanced organizational skills
Ability to learn new tools quickly
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals at all levels within the organization
Ability to work independently and to appropriately prioritize work
